Denver is a happening metropolis any time of the year. Well-known for its wealth of outdoor opportunities, the city also hosts plenty of urban activities, including cultural events and fun festivals.

With the highly-popular ski resorts in the area, winter in Denver is an especially festive time as tourists come here in droves.  There are also plenty of holiday events in the city to keep everyone in high spirits from day to night.

Here are some of the events to watch out for in Denver in the coming weeks.

  • Denver Christkindl Market

Ongoing until December 23, 2017

Arapahoe St. & 16th St. Mall

The city’s only authentic German Christmas market brings the spirit and tradition of the original Christmas markets staged on German streets since the 14th century. The event features food booths, craft vendors, live performances, St. Nikolaus Day celebrations, and of course, plenty of beer and Gleuhwein – the traditional German holiday wine.

  • Mile High Holidays

Ongoing until January 21, 2018

Throughout Denver

This city-wide festival is Denver’s premier holiday event. The Mile High City’s streets come alive with bright lights, holiday décor, and shopping galore. There are numerous activities all around Denver, including parades, Christmas markets, Santa encounters, and theatre, music, and dance performances.

  • 30th Annual Holiday Expedition

Ongoing until December 31, 2017

Artists on Santa Fe Gallery displays and sells the artworks of their 17 gallery members. Those looking for unique gifts will find a wide variety of choices, including paintings, photography, ceramics, sculptures, jewelry, and more.

  • The Avenue Theater presents ComedySportz

Ongoing until December 30

Staged every Friday and Saturday night, this highly popular comedy show is perfect for the whole family. Improv comedy is made a sport with two competing teams playing seven to twelve improv games, with the fans acting as judges.

  • Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Ongoing until December 24, 2017

Elle Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex

Colorado Ballet’s presentation of this timeless holiday favorite is considered the best loved in the US. It has been presented for more than 60 years now and has never failed to enthrall audiences.

  • National Western Stock Show & Rodeo

January 6 – 21, 2018

National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street

This major western heritage and entertainment event features one of the highest-prize professional rodeo seasons, as well as a western-themed trade show and a horse show that’s considered one of the biggest in the country. The entire family will enjoy fun events like the Cowboy Mounted Shooting, a hunter/jumper show, the Xtreme Dogs Show, and more.

  • Amtrak’s Winter Park Express Ski Train

January 5 – March 25, 2018

Union Station

The Amtrak Winter Park Express takes skiers from Denver Union Station to Winter Park Resort on Saturdays and Sundays, with a travel time of only two hours. This annual tradition has been going on since 1912.

  • Amazing Scavenger Hunt

Ongoing until December 31, 2017

Downtown Denver

This fun urban adventure will take you and your team on a two to three-hour tour of the city and its attractions while you search for clues, solve puzzles, and complete challenges to win against other teams.
