Make your home flow better with these 3 sensible organizing tips

Happy couple packing boxes during the moving process

Every home accumulates clutter, and it typically happens before the homeowner even realizes it! Cleaning and reorganizing the house might seem like a daunting task, but it can be done as long as you know the right way to go about it.

Whether you want to simply reorganize your home and clear out the clutter or you are preparing to put your home on the market, these tips will help you get the job done:

Be organized and systematic

The good news is that you don’t need any special tools to organize your living spaces. Just four or five containers – bins, buckets, or baskets – will do. No need to buy new ones right away; you just need these to sort out your items at the beginning.

Assign containers that distinguish between trash you can immediately throw away, items you can reuse or recycle, and things you can still fix or repair. Organize your old belongings as items you can donate to other people who may want or need them.

Use a separate container for items and décor that you want to place back where they belong. The container will come in handy while you clean and organize their dedicated space.

When reorganizing the items and belongings that you decide to keep, make sure to keep everyday items easiest to access. In the kitchen, for example, keep dinnerware on the lower cabinet shelves. Things you use only occasionally should go on the upper shelves.

Be patient and realistic

The most important thing in the organizing process is to recognize that it is a process. If you have a lot to organize, understand that it will take time.

Set a realistic goal, stretching out your cleanup project across a few days. Expecting to get all your cleaning and reorganizing finished in one day will lead to unnecessary pressure and stress. Instead, allocate a few hours each day to work at a manageable pace.

Tackle one room at a time. And in each room, divide the work in stages. Break the task into zones or specific areas within the room to keep your effort on target and efficient.

Before you know it, the job will be done, and you can move on to more fun things!

Create good habits

Of course, when you finish putting everything in your home back in order, you’ll want to keep it that way.

Remember the old adage, “prevention is better than cure”? It should come in handy at this stage.

The trick is to employ new habits to keep the mess in and around your home under control. Be mindful about putting things away as soon as you’re finished with them.

Develop morning and evening cleaning routines. These don’t have to be heavy tasks; you just need to make sure that every spot around the house is clean and in order before the mess starts to get overwhelming again.

Habits take some time to build, but as long as you keep at it, you’ll be in great position to manage your household more effectively and efficiently.
